This 1 week holiday was too boring for me to post it as journal. Therefore, i posted this journal on cosplay.
Cosplay (kosupure in Japan Pronunciation), a contraction (or portmanteau) of the English words "costume" and "play". This is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga(Japanese word for comics and print cartoons), anime, tokusatsu(Japanese terms for special effects), and video games. As for the least common such as the Japanese live action television shows, fantasy movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.
In Japan, "cosplay" as a hobby is usually an end unto itself. Likeminded people gather to see others' costumes, show off their own elaborate handmade creations, take lots of pictures, and possibly participate in best costume contests.
To me cosplay is something that i will not dare to try. Reason being, i do not have the guts to dress in cosplay and walk around Singapore. Firstly, Singaporean are so "fashionable" that they are still not use or ignorant about cosplay. I do not want to go down the streets with eyes on me! Secondly, there are only a small portion of people in Singapore dressing up in cosplay. If i have the guts to dress up in cosplay and walking alone on the entire roads, i think there will be comments on people thinking that i am insane. Thirdly, someone like me who likes to wear T-shirt with skirt wil not get use to dress up in cosplay. Moreover, the costumes will cost a hole in my pocket and getting my fingers as the costumes are handmade. Lastly, as a pessimistic person, i do not think i will look good in any coplay charcaters.
Even though, we may not seen lots of people dressing in cosplay down the road, but there are still lots of people joining now and then. But to my comments, think there are still improvements on Singapore cosplay if we compare the quality of cosplay in Singapore to Japan. But this does not meant that all Japanese cosplayers are up to certain standard.
This is taken from a article, but i had change it to my own words:- Dspite a country being law-abiding, Singaporeans had their first exposure to cosplay, there were still repulsions and attraction:
Playing dress-up is not just for small children -- adults can take it very seriously, too. Singapore's Street Festival had organised a Japanese Anime Character Costume Parade at the Youth Park. It is a hoby that painstacking for cosplayer as they had to choose the right costume for them. There were estimation of 500 cosplayers there, and some say they hope events like these will give Singaporeans more insight into their passion, which they say is a form of art in itself.
